bonus activity stranger than fiction

Strange!
Look at these two plants!
Image result for Hydnellum Peckii this is known as the devil tooth and its real name is Hydnellum Peckii.
Image result for venus fly trap
As you all know this is a Venus fly trap.
Three differences,
One can catch fly's and other little things,
One has little splotches.
One is brightly coloured and the other isn't
Three similarities
They are both found in parts of america
They are strange
They are both dangerous because one can cut you and the other is inedible.
Please comment down below and I will see you later!

  1. Hi Sam,

I was intrigued by the devil tooth. How do you think it got its name?? Are these plants found in other places other than America??

    1. Hi
I think it is called the devils tooth because it looks like a tooth with blood coming out.
      Thanks for the comment.

  2. Hi Sam,

It's Leslie here, reading your blog from my home in Canada as a member of the Summer Learning Journey team. You've certainly chosen some strange and wonderful plants to study for this activity.

It's hard for me to believe that a plant can be a carnivore, that it can 'eat' insects. But I know that it's true because we have Pitcher plants in Canada that trap insects like the Venus Fly trap does. What a wild idea!!

I've never seen the 'Bleeding Tooth Fungus' or 'Devil's Tooth Fungus' before. Hmmm... the information indicates that it has a foul odour so I think I'd steer clear of it!

You've listed some similarities and some differences - good for you.

I hope you're learning some neat new things through this program and I hope you're enjoying the activities. I also hope you're really enjoying your summer holidays.

Keep up your great work, Sam.

    Cheers,

    Leslie

  3. Hi Samuel,
Well done on finishing this activity. I think that you have done a great job listing the similarities and differences of the Hydnellum Peckii and the Venus Fly trap. The Hydnellum Peckii looks really freaky doesn't it? Keep up the good work.
