Hello, my next activity as part of the Summer Learning Journey, is to write a letter to a friend, imagining I am travelling on a Waka to New Zealand. Here is my letter:
Dear Friend,
I am very scared, as I am afraid of the water. I wish our family had been able to stay at home. I don't feel well at all, leaving my friends and other family behind. The Waka is very long and skinny, but not much room to move. It is freezing because I am surrounded by water, and big gusts of wind.
We have to be careful with how much we eat, to make sure we have enough to last the trip.
All I can see is dark blue water. It appears to go on for miles. There is no land in sight.
I hope we get to New Zealand soon. I have heard it is a very green country with lots of trees and mountains. I will write to you again soon.
Your friend
Sam
I hope you enjoyed reading my letter. Would you be scared to voyage on a Waka?
This is wicked Samuel!! Keep up the great work!!!
ReplyDeleteHey Samuel,
ReplyDeleteI love the descriptive writing you are starting to use in your blogs. I have to agree I would probably be scared too as I’m not a fan of the ocean. Loving your passion for this challenge, keep it up.

Hey Sam,
ReplyDeleteThis letter is outstanding. It takes a lot of creativity to imagine such incredible detail in this activity. I really like the description you have shared about the temperature and how you might feel being surrounded by water. I am a competent swimmer but I agree that it would be scary to be out in the ocean with no land in sight. Have you thought about what the weather might be like on your journey?
Amazing effort Sam,
Megan
Hi Megan,
DeleteIn my view I would have hoped it would be fine, but think there would have been cloudless days and rainy nights.
