Week 2 Day 1 Bonus Activity - The Early Years - In Flanders Fields

In Flanders Fields Poem

I like this poem as it reminds me of the soldiers who fought for our country over 100 years ago.
It also makes me sad as they had to give their lives to help end the war and give us some peace.

How does this poem make you feel?

  1. Kia Ora Sam,

My name is Rachel and I am working with Megan, Cia and Clare on the Summer Learning Journey (SLJ) programme this year. It is amazing to see that you have already posted so many activities for the SLJ on your blog site. Awesome work!

I particularly liked reading this post as I, too, find it quite sad to think of all of the men and women who gave their lives in order for us to live in a free country. We really own them a debt of gratitude, don't we?

'In Flanders Fields' is one of my favourite war-time poems as it reminds me of my home in Canada. I was born and raised in Ontario (a province in the middle of Canada) where my parents and sister still live. My dad worked as a teacher when I was growing up and the school where he taught was called John McCrae Secondary School. It was actually named after the man who wrote 'In Flanders Field.' McCrae was a Lieutenant-Colonel with the Canadian army in the war.

    It's a small world, isn't it?!

I hope that you and your family are enjoying some nice time together this holiday. I am about to nip away and call my dad because my family is actually celebrating Christmas today at home :)

Great work with your blogging this summer, Sam! Keep it up!

    Best,
    Rachel :)
