Activity 1 off the menu

OMG!
If somewhere you fish were you are not aloud you could be fined up to $100,000!
Do you think this should be aloud, I think not because you only get fined $10,000 for catching an endangered dolphin in a net!
It should be less or if you get an endangered dolphin in a net it should be a lot more.
What do you think the price should be?
I think around $80,000 for catching a fish in the wrong place and catching an endangered dolphin in a net should be like $350,000!

  1. Kia Ora Sam I really enjoyed reading your work. It's stunning and you have done a fascinating job on doing it. You are really passionate about your opinion. Your opinions are very strong and it gets me reading like almost a
day. You catch the reader's attention like me. What made you so worried about this deal?

    1. I was worried because people think they could just get away with catching dolphins because you don't pay as much and it is unfair

  2. Hello Samuel,
I am Vitaraag. I agree with you they should be charged but not 1000000 they should be charged 10000. Do you think fishes are going to go extinct? I think in a long time they will. Maybe next time you can say if you think fishing should be allowed. Keep up the amazing work!

    1. Hi
I think that lots of fish will go extinct eventually.

  3. I totally agree there should be more of a pentaly to fishers that are not abiding by the restriction rules. We are having more and more species become extinct. We want to help rejuvenate these populations as much as we can. You know from down in Mahia we have a Mataitai in certain areas which is supposed to stop people removing certain species. It takes a lot of man power to reinforce these laws.

  4. Talofa Sam,

You have told us what you thought about the rule very clearly, ka pai.

Perhaps next time you could include some information about other rules in our waters, like how many shellfish people are allowed to take home from a beach. There are lots of rules around what kinds of fish you can take home. Did you know that if you catch a fish that is undersized, you must place it back in the water?

In my opinion a hefty fine is fair, overfishing is a serious problem and a lot life depends on having fish in our waters. I did a bit of researching myself and found that harming an endangered animal like our rare Māui Dolphin's can actually earn a person a $250,000 fine!

Hopefully the fines rise to let people and commercial fishing companies know just how serious we are taking overfishing in our waters.

    Toe feiloa'i fo'i,

    Cia.

    1. Hi
I agree so much with you.
I did know that if it's undersized you couldn't take them.

  5. Hi Samuel,
Well done on finishing this activity. I don't that the government should fine someone 100,000 thousand dollars because they overfish. Sure, they are taking much more than they should be but 100k is a huge sum and most fishermen won't be able to afford that. I think they should still be fined but not as much. Keep up the good work.

    1. Hi
I like your opinion but when it comes down to lives that we are throwing away it becomes more serious.
      Thanks for the comment.

  6. Hi Samuel!
I like your blog post about the fish fine. I think that it is not fair how people fine people for fishing in an area. What would you do to stop this?

    1. hi
If I was in charge and it got to the point were that was enough I would take the fines to like millions or/and have that person charged and prosecuted.
      Thanks for the comment.
