Week 3 Day 5 Bonus Activity - Maintaining the Status Quo - You Have to Pay to Play

You Have to Pay to play?!

Do you think it is right for students to pay to go to university?
I think that they should have to pay something towards their university.  My reason for this is that university is a choice not compulsory.  I do know that some jobs require university education.  Maybe it could be something that businesses help pay.  In exchange they would get a worker when the student finished their study.

There are other options that students can do, which don't cost or are less than university.

Do you want to go to university?  I am not sure yet if I want to go.  Maybe my answer will be different if I decide to look at going to university.

Week 3 Day 5 Activity 2 - Maintaining the Status Quo - Leading New Zealand

Leading New Zealand
Week 3, Day 5, Activity 2

Name of Prime Minister: Michael Kenneth Moore - also known as Mike Moore
Date of Birth: 28 January 1949

Political Party: Labour
Number of Years as Prime Minister: Only a few months
Three interesting facts about my chosen Prime Minister:
  1. He is an author of a number of books.
  2. He has received many honours and awards such as The Order of New Zealand - which is New Zealand’s highest honour.
  3. He held the post of New Zealand Ambassador to the United States from 2010 to 2015

Week 3 Day 5 Activity 1 - Maintaining the Status Quo - Hiking Tongariro

Tongariro Crossing

Thinking about hiking the Tongariro Crossing.  Here is a list of a few items that you will need.

1. Food and water - very important to keep up your energy and to keep hydrated.
2.Cellphone - in case of an emergency.
3. Suitable clothing such as Jackets, strong sturdy shoes, and warm clothing.
4. First Aid Kit - for any type of injury
5. Map - to keep track of where you have been and where you are going

I would also make sure I was fit enough to complete the walk.  I would check the weather.  I would make sure someone knew where I was going to be and roughly what time I would be back.  Lastly have a plan in place, including transport, rough time of return, emergency supplies, contacts and learning about the walk before I go on it, so I have a little idea of what to expect.

My mum was thinking about doing this crossing before she injured her ankle.  She had thought about taking me with her.  But she wasn't sure if my fitness level was ready.  Maybe next year her and I can do it together.

Do you know of any other hikes that  you can do in New Zealand?  Have you done any of them.

Week 3 Day 4 Activity 1 - Perms and Lycra - Hairy Maclary

Image result for hairy maclary from donaldson's dairy pdf

Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy is a classic book written by a New Zealander named Lynley Dodd.
I have been given a official starting sentence of Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy.

Out of the gate and off for a walk went Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy.
Down the street, around the corner through the second alleyway and turn right, that was where Hairy Maclary normally hung out except for one thing, this time some one else had decided to hang out there.
This time there was other dogs there, they looked very big and scary to hairy maclary.
Hairy maclary moved slowly forward as he stopped he struggled to to bark a thing, when he finally screamed out a bark the big dogs turned their heads very quick and sharply.
The leader of the big dogs growled long and dramatically and all of a sudden hairy maclary lift one foot of the ground and as soon it nipped the ground the dogs came running for hairy maclary and his first reaction was to...... RUN! and so he did.
They chased him around the block over and over and over again. Until he ran into Slinky Malinki. Hairy Maclary then trembled and hid with fear, as Slinky Malinki made the other dogs shed a tear.
The other dogs ran home with their tails between their legs, while Hairy Maclary went back to his hang out. Waiting for him was Bottomley Potts covered in spots and Muffin Mclay like a bundle of hay, so they could all go for a play.

My favourite Hairy Maclary character is Bottomley Potts all covered in spots Who is your favourite character?? Comment below, and don't forget to follow for more blogs.

Week 3 Day 3 Bonus Activity - Groovy Man - A Bilingual School System

Hey guys in this blog I will be writing a letter to my principal.
I will say three things that I would want to change about our school.

Dear Mrs Petersen,

I am writing to you to tell you about three things I would like to change at school.

Firstly would be more sports events and different kinds of sports.  For example scootering, biking and skateboarding.  Obstacle course races.  And Skiing and Snowboarding trips.  I think it would be good to have lots of different events so everyone has something new to try.  You could ask the parents to help run these, to save money.

Secondly I would change some of our learning subjects.  I enjoy learning a wide selection of different activities/ subjects.  Science, Geography, Music would be some suggestions I could give.  I like hands on learning where I get to learn the steps along the way.

Last but not least I would change our lunch system.  I think it would be great to have a tuck shop, where we could order our lunches from.  These could be hot or cold meals.  Each day there would be something different so it wasn't the same everyday.
This could also be a fundraiser where the funds all go back into the school for trips etc.

I hope you like my ideas.

Bye Sam

If there anything different you would have written in your letter to your principal. Comment below.

Week 3 Day 3 Activity 2 - Groovy Man - Bell Bottom Pants

Hey guys today I will be blogging about bell bottom pants.
Bell bottom pants are very big and baggy pants.

Two reasons I don't like bell bottom pants is:

#1I dont like them being so big and baggy it's just not my type.

#2It would be hard to do lots of things like with scootering and skateboarding they would become really annoying and on bike's/BMX the big baggy part of the pants would probably get caught in the wheel or in the chain for the actual wheel itself which would cause you to catapult forward.

Two reasons I like bell bottom pants is:

#1 They do look great on most people and are a big thing in fashion.

#2 I do like the patterns that they put on them it makes them look astonishing.

What are two things do you like and don't like about bell bottom pants. Comment down below and follow for more blogs.

NAMES!

This blog is all about names.

I will tell you some of the most common names in our school.

The most common boys names are Ben, Max and Alex.
The most common girls name at our school are Dorothy and Sophia.

We have several students who have the same name.
Talking about names in common.  I have the same name as my dad and grandfather.
My name also used to be a common name at our school, I used to get confused when the other Sam was called up during a school assembly as our surnames sounded similar too.  Very confusing.

Were you named after someone in your family?

Week 3 Day 1 Activity 1 - White Picket Fences - Meat and Three Veg

Happy New Year.

dinner (2).jpg

Meat and three veg?

Back in the 1950's wives would stay home and raise the family. These ladies were called housewives.

They had a rule back then in most families, it was called 'meat and three veg'.
most families the housewives would prepare a meal and the meal for most families would be three veggies and one type of meat.

Would you like it?
I don't think I would like it all the time because I like food with lots of different flavours.  Also I love Pasta, which wouldn't be included in meat and three veg.  I sometimes like to enjoy bread with my dinner too.  I wonder if they had bread as well.  What about on special events and what about takeaway food and I think that most people wouldn't like it either.

What do you think about this rule? I don't think it is a good rule for every day, it would be ok for some days.
