Week 1 Day 1 Activity 1 - Arriving in New Zealand - The First Settlers

After reading the myth of Maui and the Giant Fish (also known as The Fish of Maui) 3 facts I learnt about Maui were

  • He never gave up
  • Maui's canoe formed the South Island
  • His fish hook was given to him by his Grandmother Murirangawhenua
The other myths about Maui that I have read or heard are

  • How Maui Found his Mother
  • How Maui Found the Secret of Fire
  • How Maui Slowed the Sun
I would like to read other Maui myths.  Comment below with your favourite Maui Myths.

    Hey Samuel,
I am so excited to see you reading these myths. Being of Maori descent yourself these are the same myths your family grew up with. My favourite Maui myth is How Maui Found his Mother.
I will see if I can get some copies of the other myths for you to read.

  2. Hey Sam,

Wow, you have explored many interesting facts and myths about Maui. I really like how you identified that Maui never gave up. This is a characteristic of Maui's that I admire as well. In the Maui and the Big Fish story, Maui was very motivated to become a great fisherman. Even though his brothers did not believe in him he persevered and continued striving to be great. If you were to become a famous legend, what would you like to be remembered for?

I have been very impressed with the hard work you have been putting into these activities. Over the next 10 days I will not be actively blogging but I will have bloggers keeping an eye on your activities. I am excited to see more amazing posts when I return.

    Happy holidays,
    Megan :)
