Activity 1 The Southern Lights

Acrostic poem!
We have to create an acrostic poem about the southern lights!
I unfortunately don't get to see them because I live in Auckland but its all good!

Spectacular sight
out standing view
ultimate tourists sight
treasure in the sky
held in the shy like a chandelier
electical waves
rare sight
neon colours fill the air

lay and watch forever
illusion of colours
ghost like movement
hypnotized by the beauty
thankful for the opportunity to see the Lights
scene from a movie!
Please comment below and I will see you next time!

  1. Hi Sam,

It's Leslie here reading your blog as a member of the Summer Learning Journey team. I live in a country where we have the magnificence of the Northern Lights. Isn't it amazing that we can be on opposite sides of the globe and both live in countries that experience special light phenomena?

I think your poem is excellent. You create a wonderful sense of the magic and majesty of the lights with your carefully chosen words. Well done!

And I love the photo you've posted as well. I hope that you'll get to see these special lights some day.

I've had the experience of seeing the Northern Lights just once or twice while I was in northern Ontario, taking a program at a university there. We don't have the opportunity to experience them in central Ontario, where I live. My husband, however, has done a number of trips in the far north of Canada and has been surrounded by the lights there - just stunning.

I hope you're having lots of fun doing these activities and I hope you're also getting lots of time to be outside, enjoying the summer.

    I'll continue reading your blog!

    Cheers,

    Leslie

  2. Hello Samuel,
I am Vitaraag. Your Acrostic poem is great. I absolutely love your poem. You actually had to only write an acrostic poem of lights but that is really good that you also did it with the word Southern. Do you want to see the southern lights? I do but I can't because I also live in Auckland. Maybe next time you can say what you think the southern lights looks like. Keep up the amazing work!

  3. Hello Samuel,
I am Gargee from Hay Park School. I love your poem so much. It is so descriptive and accurate.

I love the line 'held in the sky like a chandelier' because it was so amazing to find out it kind of was. I also like how you wrote Southern lights, even though the activity said lights, so well done. I also live in Auckland, so I can't see them as well.

    What is your favourite colour?

    Happy Blogging

  4. Hi Samuel,
Well done on finishing this activity. Your acrostic poem on the Southern Lights is great. First of all, it's great to see that you added Southern into your poem which was great. My favorite line was electric waves as it does kind of look like that in the picture. Keep up the good work.

  5. Hi Samuel!
I like your blogpost about the acrostic poem. Congrats on completing this activity. For this activity, you were supposed to do LIGHTS as the title of Acrostic. Is your first making an acrostic poem?
    Blog you later!

  6. Hi Sam,

What a creative acrostic poem. You have written it in such a way , I wouldn't know that you havent seen them before.
It would be amazing to see this. Maybe if we find out when is the best time to view this, we could make plans for a family trip to the South Island.

    Amazing Work!!
