activity 1 Predator Free 2050 – A Call to Arms

Hi guys.
This blog we have to choose from three video's.
Witch one we liked and why.
They were video's dedicated to making NZ predator free by 2050.

Video one was my favourite.
I liked it because they used technology and AI (artificial intelligence) to track and kill stoats rats and possums.

Do you think NZ will be predator free by 2050?

  2. Hi Samuel,
Well done on finishing this activity. I also think that it is smart by using Artificial Intelligence to track and kill predators like stoats, rats and possums. Hopefully New Zealand will be predator free by 2050 with the help of useful inventions like these. Keep up the good work.

  4. Hi Sam,

To imagine our country predator free by 2050 would be outstanding. Unfortunately, I think it would take alot longer than this and alot of work.
I look forward to seeing how this develops over the next 31 years.

  5. Hi Sam,

It's Leslie here, reading your blog as a member of the Summer Learning Journey team.

I found the first video really interesting too. The Cacophony project is so inspiring because a high tech person has used his expertise to find a new way to attract and track animals, using sound. So brilliant!!

Have you ever seen a stoat, ferret or rat? I understand that they're 3 of the invasive predators that are causing the most trouble in New Zealand.

Predators are a huge issue in your country, aren't they? It's such a shame that people chose to bring and/or accidentally brought these animals to New Zealand, thinking they would serve a purpose. Of course, they just knocked out the natural balance that existed on the land before European contact.

We have troubles with invasive species in my country, Canada, too. We have fish and other water creatures that have entered our lakes and rivers and are destroying our native fish stocks. That's a problem!! We have plants that are choking our creeks and rivers because they're invasive plants that didn't used to exist in Canada.

So almost all countries in the world are struggling with this type of problem. I hope that New Zealand can win the battle and become Predator-free as soon as possible!!

Meanwhile, I hope you're having a super summer and that you're enjoying this Summer Learning Journey program!!

    Cheers,

    Leslie
